Walter R.K. Dany

Walter Dany, 85, of Wading River, NY, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, after a long battle with prostate cancer. Born on May 20, 1940, in New York City, Walter brought laughter and light wherever he went, always the life of the party.

Walter and Ann married on May 22, 1965, beginning a partnership that lasted 60 wonderful years. Together, they raised three children—Michael, Andrew, and Doreen—instilling in them a sense of humor, adventure, and a love of nature. 

A proud veteran, Walter served his country through two military assignments in the Army before embarking on a long and successful career with Binks and later, ITW. His work took him to many places around the world, and he returned home from every trip with stories, souvenirs, and, most often, some new seeds for his garden.

Walter’s joy for life was contagious. Whether casting a line from his cherished boat, the Salty Diver, relaxing on the beaches of the Long Island Sound with a beer in hand, or preparing meals for large crowds of community members, Walter exuded warmth and happiness in all that he did. His laughter and never-ending supply of stories delighted all who knew him. He was always busy working on something—building, remodeling, or tinkering, and eager to share his skills and lend a hand to help others. Active in his community as a member of the Moose Club in Riverhead, and a founding member of the Wildwood Hills POA, Walter touched many lives with his generosity and kind heart.

Walter is survived by his wife Ann; his sons Michael and Andrew; his daughter Doreen and his six grandchildren; Sean, Erin, Emma, Brandon, Gianna, and Fiorella; along with a wide circle of friends and family from NY, to NJ to SC. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and laughter that will live on in the stories and memories that we shared with him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM & 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Alexander-Rothwell Funeral Home, located at 6447 Route 25A, Wading River, NY. A Prayer Service till take place at the funeral home on Saturday, July 26, at 10:30 AM. Interment with Army Honors will follow at Wading River Cemetery.
