Thomas Kitz Obituary

Tommy Kitz, 68, of Wading River, NY, died on May 21, 2025. Tommy was surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was born in Glendale, Queens in 1957 to Gerard and Frances Kitz.

Tommy attended high school in Port Jefferson before he pursued his love and interest in cars. Following in the footsteps of his dad, Tommy became well-known in his professional life as an owner of CK Auto in Wading River, co-owned with his brothers Cliff and Chuck. CK Auto became much more than a job to Tommy and was a source of pride for both Tommy and the neighborhood.

Tommy’s son, Tommy, couldn’t wait to start a family of his own and his wife Melissa seamlessly joined the family and was a loving daughter-in-law to Tommy. Though Tommy loved working on and restoring cars, playing with his dog, watching NASCAR, and listening to Dave Matthews Band, his favorite role was that as a grandfather to Tommy’s twin daughters, Lilly and Grace. Tommy always showed up for his family in any way possible.

Tommy will always be remembered as a quiet doer, a selfless friend and family member, and an endless helper. His quiet ability to always make everyone laugh was and will continue to be cherished.  There was nothing Tommy couldn’t fix and, more tellingly, nothing he wasn’t willing to fix. Even when he wasn’t asked.

We couldn’t have asked for a better son, brother, parent, “Uncle Tom,” or friend. If Tommy loved you for one day, he loved you forever. His memory will live on in the hearts of all of those who loved him.

Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Gerard, and his brother, Cliff Kitz (Patty, wife; Cliff, Michael, Amy, children), and is survived by his mother, Frances, his brother Chuck (Margarite, wife; Chuck, Jack and Hayden, children), his sisters Teresa (Gerard, Erin, and Lindsay, children), Gina (Matt, husband; Julian and Jason, children), Francine (Stephen, husband; Rachel, Renee, and Stephen  children), and his son Tommy (Melissa, wife; Lily and Grace, children). Tommy is also survived by his lifelong friends, Rich and Lauraine Anderson.

Tommy’s family would like to thank the dedicated Hospice staff who cared for Tommy at his home. They would also like to acknowledge Tommy’s sister, Teresa, and Tommy’s childhood best friend and his son’s Godfather, Jack Brehm, for their unwavering, selfless commitment to Tommy during his treatment over the past three years and his peaceful passing.

Tommy will be waked at Alexander-Rothwell Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 27th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Donations to Autism Speaks would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers.
