Obituary for Rosemarie Tubito January 29,1927- October 10, 2023
Rosemarie (Kopack) Tubito, age 96, passed away peacefully with family at her side at the Bristal Assisted Living in Mount Sinai on October 10th, 2023.
Rosemarie was the eldest of five children of Mary and Joseph Kopack. She grew up in Westbury, NY. After graduating high school she enrolled in the Cadet Nurse Corps and attended Keuka College where she received her Registered Nurse degree. During one of her trips back home she met Otto Tubito, also of Westbury, and they married on March 7, 1948. They built their own home in East Meadow, where they resided with their growing family for 38 years. She always made sure her home was full of activities, family gatherings, laughter and music. Rosemarie was lovingly involved supporting her children’s interests serving as
Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, making sure everyone had music lessons, sewing clothes for them, and organizing two week camping trips for the family every summer. When her kids started to attend college, she went back to work as a nurse at Hempstead General Hospital for twenty years. In 1986, Rosemarie and her husband moved to Reston, Virginia where she continued to live and thrive for thirty-four years. She was involved in the local Over 50’s Club and was a faithful member at St. Thomas à Becket Catholic Church. Both she and Otto contributed their time and expertise to their townhouse association where they had many close friends and caring neighbors. They were often on the road visiting their children around the US and in Europe. Many of these visits involved fixing and repairing things or remodeling their homes.
In 2018, her husband, Otto, passed away. In 2020 she moved amidst the corona virus pandemic to her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Wading River, NY. She made her next move in 2021 to the Bristal Assisted Living in Mount Sinai where she resided until her death. Rosemarie will be fondly remembered for her intelligence, her quick wit, her loving devotion to her whole family, her singing and whistling and her fantastic memory. She was a strong supporter of all her children’s and grandchildren’s education and other pursuits.
Rosemarie was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Otto Tubito, in 2018. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Barbara Tubito-Megara (Tom Tucker), Susan Gisler (Galen), Paul Tubito (Sandra), Joseph Tubito (Cassandra) and Janet Tubito (Tim Strauch) and by twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Rhoades, and brother, Robert Kopack, and her many nieces and nephews who were touched by her kindness. The family is deeply grateful to the skilled and kind care given by Bristal Assisted Living staff.
Visitation will be at the Alexander Rothwell Funeral Home in Wading River on Sunday, October 15 from 4-8pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wading River on Monday, October 16 at 10:30am followed by a burial service at Calverton National Cemetery.
