Helen A. Orestis

Helen Orestis, 85, of Astoria Queens, and Wading River, died January 15th, 2021, at Southampton Hospital after her long battle with COVID-19.
Helen was born in Alexandria Egypt to Harikia and Aristidis Orestis. She learned about dressmaking from her mother and attended college to study fashion and design.
She dreamed of coming to America and in May 1967 at the age of 31 she achieved that dream.
Helen spent her entire US career in the garment district of NYC. She worked as an assistant designer to some of the most respected in the industry including Jones New York, Kaspar, Liz Claiborne, and Theo Miles.
Her interests included traveling, gardening, and sewing. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her mother until she passed at age 81, and then her brother who passed at age 64.
Helen is survived by her nieces and nephews, and a host of grand nieces and nephews.
“A life that touches others goes on forever and will  always be in our hearts”.

 A funeral Mass will be held at St. Irene of Chrysovalantou in Queens, NY on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens, NY.
