Frank Gerardi passed away on September 11th 2024 at the age of 90 years old. He was a loving husband to Josiane (Gigi) Gerardi; brother to Petey, Tommy & Johnny; and father to Deb, Barbara, Cindy, Cathy, Frank & Vicky. He is remembered for adoring his 11 grandchildren (Claire, Jessica, Rachel, Audra, Christopher, Elena, Marc, Marina, Rebecca, Lauren & Matthew) and 8 great grandchildren (Daniel, Abigail, Matthew, Parker, CJ, Dominic, Myla & Michael).
In his early years, Frank was a dedicated foreman and a proud ironworker for the Local 40 and Local 361 unions. During his career, he oversaw the construction of Southampton College, 1 Police Plaza, Lufthansa Airport, Metropolitan Museum of Art, LeFrak City in Queens, Shoreham Power Plant, Billy Blake shopping center and more. His proudest accomplishment was the construction of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in which he was awarded a medallion for his contribution to an iconic achievement.
After retiring as foreman, he put all his efforts into a number of successful businesses which included two bakeries, and a concession at Stony Brook University. Whether it was the black and white cookies, the variety of chocolate and nuts at Going Nuts, or the early morning grab and go necessities from the Student Union on campus, he brightened up the community. His hard work paid off when he opened The Cookie Clown in Harbor Square Mall, Port Jefferson, right next to a beauty salon owned by Gigi. After the two met, they were inseparable and spent a wonderful 50 years married together.
Frank and Gigi were adventurous travelers. He especially loved visiting the magnificent churches in Europe and admired the Vatican in Rome the most. Frank enjoyed boating and clamming in Port Jefferson and playing poker with his friends. He loved macaroni and meatballs cooked by his “HON”, Gigi. The two retired to Florida in the early 2000’s and moved back to Long Island in 2020 to be closer to family.
Being born in Brooklyn, Frank was a New Yorker through and through. It was his way or the highway. The song ‘My Way’ by Frank Sinatra will forever ring through our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 22nd from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Alexander-Rothwell Funeral Home 6447 Route 25A | Wading River, NY 11792
