Eileen Rita Caggiano passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025 at the age of 92 leaving behind a legacy of love and family.
Eileen was born in the Bronx on November 13, 1932 to John and Catherine O’Rourke. She enjoyed a happy childhood with her younger brother John, attending Holy Rosary and St. Barnabas HS. Growing up, Eileen enjoyed horses at a nearby stable as well as playing softball and basketball for her school or parish.
Eileen married the love of her life., Michael, in 1955. Together they enjoyed a wonderful marriage for almost 60 years creating a happy (though crowded )home for a large and livley family of children with diverse personalities as well as several docile dogs. Eileen guided her family with patience and a calm, clear head.
They had 6 children: Ellen (Joseph) , Kevin, Nancy (Darrell), Michael ( Cheryl) Gerard (Patricia) Joan (Frank)
12 grandchildren: Nicole( Ryan), Danielle ( Derrick), Nancy (Jeff), Heather ( Brad), Paul ( Stephanie), Michael ( Lauren), John, Stefanie ( Josh), Lisa ( Marc), Cassandra ( Nicholas),Daniel and Bridgette.
21 great-grandchildren (with two on the way): Lauryn, Joseph (Hailey), Steven ( Jasmine), Micheal, Andrew, Caleb, Katherine, Leigha, Emalee,Jeffrey, Jennifer, Logan, Sophia, Charlotte, Colton, James, Luke, Olivia ,Michael, Kayleigh, Campbell
1 great-great grandchild: Amelia
Eileen remained connected to each and every one of them knowing all their names, birthdays and interests. Nothing brought her more joy than a visit or phone call.
Eileen had a remarkable memory and active mind. She was an avid reader reading the newspaper daily as well as novels. She enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets thoughtfully for each of her many family members as well as anonymous church donations. She loved challenging herself with Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
She loved to garden and was able to get beautiful blooms to grow anywhere inside and outside her home. Being outdoors brought her much peace.
Eileen was a devout Catholic . She attended Mass regularly watching it online daily when she became homebound. She prayed the Rosary and had a long list of intentions for those who needed prayers.
Eileen will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unconditional love of family and her faith and kindness. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, from 2:00-4:30 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM, at Alexander-Rothwell Funeral Home, located at 6447 Route 25A, Wading River, NY. A Mass off Christian Burial will take place on Friday, October 24, at 11:45 AM at St. Mark's R.C. Church, Shoreham, NY. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
