Frederick E. Finter of 8 Douglaston Court, Ridge, NY (formally of Wading River, NY) was called home to Heaven
on Friday, March 22, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife; Eileen, of 55 years. His 4 children; Michael (Wendy),
John (Karen), Meghan (Patrick) & Ryan (Lindsay), his 7 grandchildren, Frederick, George, Lauren, Matthew,
Elizabeth, Mary & Emma, and his 3 step-grandchildren, Brendan, Sean & Logan.
Fred was born in Corona, Queens and grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma with his parents and sister. He graduated from
Seaton Hall Catholic High School and went on to earn both a Bachelor and a Masters Degree.
After marrying Eileen, he settled in Wading River to raise his family. He was a Boy Scouts of America Troop Leader,
a Little League Baseball Coach and the Iron Chef of his backyard BBQ Grill. Fred enjoyed the game of golf and played
in a League with his friends. His love for the NY Mets and the NY Giants ran deep.
Fred worked as a Detective Captain for the Suffolk County District Attorney's Investigative Squad. He attended the
Eastman Kodak Forensic Photography School in Rochester, NY. He was a graduate of the prestigous F.B.I. National
Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He was elected President of the Suffolk County Police Association in addition to serving
as Treasurer and Chaplain. Fred retired after 35 years of service to his community.
Fred served as a lecturer and a eucharistic minister before becoming a permanent Deacon at St. John the Baptist R.C.
Church, in Wading River, from 1994 until his passing. He faithfully carried out his duties including marrying couples,
Baptizing children and performing funeral services at both, the Wading River and Calverton National Cemeteries.
In addition, to those responsibilities, Fred led a weekly Bible discussion group with parishioners spreading the word
of God for over thirty years. Fred was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 49 years.
Several years after retiring, Fred and Eileen downsized from the family home on Overhill Road and moved to Leisure Glenn
in Ridge, NY where Fred was elected Vice President of the Homeowners Association and worked with community members there to
better their living experience. Fred was also the President of the Wading River Cemetery where he oversaw daily operations.
Visitation: Tuesday, March 26th from 2-5pm & 6-9pm at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Wading River, NY.
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, March 27th at 11am at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Wading River, NY.
