David Hellberg

David Hellberg, of Ridge, New York, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 11, 1945, in Jamaica, New York.

David was the beloved husband of Dorothy A. Hellberg, and a devoted father to David (Linda) Hellberg, Douglas Hellberg, and Denise (Charles) Hetzel. He was a cherished grandfather to Melissa, Jessica, Samantha, Ashley, and DJ, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

David was the proud owner of Rocking Horse Painting and Wallpapering, where he built a reputation through hard work, craftsmanship, and dedication. He took great pride in his work and the relationships he built along the way.

He also dedicated much of his life to serving his community as a proud member of the Ridge Fire Department. He was a former Captain and a charter member of Company Three, and he truly loved everything about the fire service. The brotherhood, the service, and the commitment to helping others were a defining part of who he was.

Outside of work and service, David enjoyed spending time on the golf course, especially his tee times, which he always looked forward to. But above all, his greatest joy in life was his family. He loved them deeply and completely, and nothing meant more to him than the time he spent with those closest to him.

David was a man of immense warmth and wisdom, with a steady presence and a quick wit that could light up any room. Though Parkinson’s disease eventually slowed his steps, it never dimmed his spirit or the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He faced his illness with quiet strength and grace, proving that while a disease may affect the body, it can never touch the heart or character of a man.

He lived a full and meaningful life, deeply loved by his wife, family, and friends. He will be missed more than words can express, but his legacy of love, strength, and service will live on in all who knew him

 Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 26, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Alexander-Rothwell Funeral Home, located at 6447 Route 25A, Wading River, NY. A Prayer Service will take place on Friday, March 27, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Coram NY.
