David DeVinney Obituary

David Jay DeVinney, 80, of Manorville, New York, entered into the house of the Lord on November 28, 2025. Born on July 8 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, David grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work, family, and faith.

A graduate of Harborfields High School class of 1964, he went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969 in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.  As a young man he had a love for the beach, motorcycles, his friends and family, and the outdoors.

A creative spirit by nature, Dave brought beauty into the world through his handiwork, as he saw God’s handiwork in the creation, and brought his own creations to life, as a Florist, a candlemaker, a stern father and a husband. He was a motorcycle rider, a horseback rider, a gardener, and a man who embraced the simple joys and adventures that God placed before him.  Dave’s faith in the Lord was a central theme to his life and guided his decisions, shaped his character, and influenced all those who knew him.

He was old-fashioned yet accepting of others, stubborn yet friendly - qualities that reflected both his strong spirit and his forgiving heart. Dave was prone to small talk, as most local store owners can attest! He liked games, whether it was playing rummy 500 or chess with his youngest or watching his oldest son’s baseball games in Greenlawn NY.  He took tremendous pride in this country and in his middle son who served in the United States Navy for twenty-four years.  He also cherished the unique and quirky, collecting memorable treasures over the years - from an old ambulance to his limited edition Trans-Am, his coin collection, homemade candles, random assortment of farm animals and countless other items that reflected his curiosity and love for God’s creativity.

Above all, David’s greatest devotion was to the Lord and to his wife of fifty-eight years, Marlene Katherine DeVinney (nee Ammann), who walked faithfully by his side until the moment he parted from this world. He also leaves behind his three sons: David Kurt DeVinney and wife Dianne of East Northport; Keith W. DeVinney of Pensacola, FL; and Kevin J. DeVinney and wife Erin of Haverhill, MA. His legacy continues with his grandchildren—Katelyn Hartmann and husband Nick, Kyle DeVinney, Kristen DeVinney, Allison DeVinney, Ryan DeVinney, and Ethan DeVinney—and his great-granddaughter, Sophia Grace Hartmann. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert DeVinney.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 4th, from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. at Alexander-Rothwell Funeral Home in Wading River. A military burial will follow Friday at 10 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.

Dave will be remembered for his faith, his humor, his creativity, and the unmistakable way he lived his life on his own terms. His presence and love will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the animals, both domestic and wild, that ate from his gentle hand.  David’s family takes comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed home into eternal rest, where God will wipe every tear from his eyes and where his joy is now complete.
