Lawrence “Larry” Edward Toler was born in Rocky Gap, Virginia on December 30, 1937. Both of his parents, Pricilla and Namon, are now deceased. In addition, he had three sisters ( Geraldine, Rosetta and Inez) and one younger brother (Pernell), all also deceased. At the young age of 16 he joined the United States Air Force. After serving for several years, he attended technical school, and he also met and married his wife, Tomoko Toler. They have been married for over 50 years. Having resided in Riveread, New York for many of those 50+ years, they moved to Westhampton, New York in 2001. Larry worked as a Technical Specialist in the Physics Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory and retired from there after 34 years. In 200, Larry won the Brookhaven Award for his dedication to serving the community and diversity issues.
Larry was very social and loved to spend time with his family and friends. He also loved playing cards, travelling, fishing, reading about politics and history, and listening to all kinds of music. He also served several roles with the Southampton Town, which most recently included Secretary of the Town Planning Board and was an active participant in the Southampton Town Republican Committee.
Having been a member of the Shriners and Masons, he held many titles and roles, which included Right Worshipful Lawrence E. Toler District Deputy Grand Master Emeritus 33o. He was an active member of the Prince Hall Masonic family. He served as Past Patron in Tyre Chapter No. 62 Order of the Eastern Stars. He served the fourth Masonic District as President for several years, also serving as High Priest in Royal East No. 36. Remaining a Noble and member of Abu Beker No. 91, he was also a member of Long Island Consistory No. 61 and later became a 33rd degree Mason under the United Supreme Council. He was an active member of Tyre Lodge No. 91 where he served as Worshipful Master and later became a Past Master of Tyre Lodge No. 91. Having given so much to Tyre Lodge for years of service he was awarded Life Membership in Tyre Lodge No.91.
Lawrence E. Toler went on to serve the Most Worshipful Princehall Grand Lodge as District Deputy Grand Master, which is the Highest Appointed officer. He went on to receive the rank of being made District Deputy Grand Master Emeritus under Most Worshipful Solomon Wallace 33o Past Grand Master and currently served with Honor under the leadership of Most Worshipful Dorian R Glover 33o Grand Master of Prince Hall Masons of the state of New York. Right Worshipful Lawrence E Toler District Deputy Grand Master Emeritus 33o will be truly missed by the Princehall family, who wish their brother God Speed and thank the Toler family for letting them share his love and talents.
Larry is survived by his wife, two daughters Monique and Lisa, one son-in-law Arthur, two grandsons Kiyoshi and Justin, and two great-grandchilren, Julia Michelle and Wesley Lawrence.
